Carpet Maintenance
Make sure that you keep your carpet in top condition for as long as possible, vacuum often with a vacuum cleaner to pick up dust and dirt and clean up any spills immediately to avoid hard to get rid of stains. Take care to use the right treatment or chemicals for the job so that you do not worsen the problem. Often natural ingredients are less harmful to your carpets. Here are a few tips to help keep your carpets looking good.
- Identify unknown spots before you use any cleaning product, if you are not sure use water first.
- Mud stains are the exceptions always let this dry then scrape off as much as possible, and then use a high quality vacuum cleaner to pick up the residue. If any stain remains blot this with a little liquid dishwashing solution and then rinse with clean water. Finally place a towel over the area with a weight on top to help soak up the excess liquid.
- Scrape or pick up solids and use an absorbent towel to soak up liquids always working from the edges of the spot to the center to avoid spreading the stain… and NEVER rub always blot the carpet to avoid pilling the fibres ( that is wear and tear of the fabrics can cause the fibres to ball up on the surfurce).
Keep a supply of Baby wipes handy, they are great for a number of quick cleaning jobs and often do the trick for minor carpet spills.
